AutoRedact plug-in adds professional redacting functionality to Adobe Acrobat. Software adds "Redacting" menu and "Redacting" toolbar to the Acrobat user interface to provide full access to all features of AutoRedact ™ plug-in. The redacting workflow GeneRally consists of 3 steps: markup, redacting and final review. User uses a variety of manual and automated redacting tools to mark up specific text and designate areas on the pages that need to be redacted. Once this step is completed and all confidential information has been selected for redacting then actual document redacting is performed. Text, form fields, annotations, and images in the PDF document are redacted by completely removing designated information from the document. Redacted characters are replaced with a designated "redacting" character, exemption codes are optionally added to document to indicate the Locations and reasons why a certain information has been removed. AutoRedact comes with ready-to-use exemption code library that covers Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act of 1974. The visual appearance of the redacted documents can be customized by selecting different colors, font styles and sizes. Redacting bars can be optionally added to the document to give it a traditional, "censored" look. Please note that redacting bars are used for visualization purpose only, they are not used to cover any content on the page. Information is always physically removed from the document for security purposes. The software features many automated methods that simplify finding and redacting textual information in the PDF documents. Specific words and phrases can be automatically found and marked up for redacting using user-specific redacting dictionaries. Text patterns such as Social Security Numbers, Employer Identification Numbers, phone and fax numbers, email addresses, dates, postal addresses can be automatically selected for redacting.
